Due to historical systems of oppression, LGBTQ individuals experience higher rates of psychological difficulties and have an increased likelihood of suffering interpersonal victimization in both childhood and adulthood. There is, however, a lack of LGBTQ-specific mental health intervention to address this.
Research has shown that group therapy can be particularly helpful in combatting the effects of minority stress in a variety of ways. Group therapy can address issues of family and social rejection, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills related to emotional intimacy. In addition, group therapy can provide a sense of community that may be lacking in the lives of sexual and gender minorities.
To provide a resource and opportunity for trans and gender non-conforming individuals, Casey White, LPC is leading an 8-week process group starting Monday, February 19th. Casey has been providing care for the LGBTQ community for the duration of his career and is excited to provide this opportunity for others to grow and heal.
