Amanda Eckl MSW, SISW
Amanda graduated with a Bachelor’s in Social Work in 2015 from Christopher Newport University and completed the Advanced Standing Masters of Social Work Program with a Clinical Concentration at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016. Amanda worked in child welfare for 8 years as a Foster Care Social Worker. She approaches therapy and the field of social work from a Systems Theory perspective recognizing that the individual is impacted by a multitude of systems including within their family, community, and society. Amanda has worked as a Clinician in a Therapeutic Group Home setting providing individual, family and group therapy along with clinical support as youth received comprehensive psychological testing. Amanda’s treatment approach is rooted in trauma-informed care that is influenced by psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, and implementing modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), mindfulness, emphasis on the mind-body connection, psychoeducation, and grounding techniques. Amanda works with adolescents, teenagers, young adults, and adults. Amanda has an interest in serving clients involved with various systems including but not limited to the Department of Social Services (DSS) and Court Services Unit (CSU). Amanda is interested in working with caregivers to enhance their knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed parenting with the goal of strengthening the family system. Amanda believes that every person has the capacity to facilitate healing and there should be no shame or stigma associated with using outside support to facilitate growth. Amanda approaches therapy with a nonjudgmental demeanor while creating a safe space for clients to discover their needs, strengths, and desires.
Amanda is registered with the Virginia Board of Social Work as a Supervisee in Social Work to provide services under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) as she completes her supervision requirements for LCSW credentials.
