Sandra Steele FNP-BC

Sandra has extensive healthcare experience, beginning as a Registered Nurse (RN) with inpatient Critical Care, Trauma/General Surgery, and Acute Psychiatry at the University of Virginia (UVA) Medical Center. She was at the frontline of many epidemics, including HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, while later having the joy of witnessing numerous innovative medical breakthroughs. Sandra was also devoted to supporting forensics, victim advocacy, and sexual assault prevention for nearly a decade as a Sexual Assault Coordinator in the Emergency Department.

Sandra cared for some of the first transgender patients (who traveled from around the world for reaffirming surgery), as well as the first liver transplant and kidney-pancreas transplant patients, while at UVA. It was also during this time that she took a special interest in caring for bariatric patients and those suffering from eating disorders. After her experiences at UVA, Sandra became more passionate about keeping patients out of the hospital through health promotion.

After winning titles as an elite bodybuilder, Sandra established a corporate personal training/nutrition business. Her fitness background subsequently shaped the trajectory of her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner: Sandra’s #1 winning prescription is diet & exercise! She has developed individual clinics to focus on heart disease prevention and weight management, received an award from the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians (VAFP) for her tobacco cessation efforts, and has been invited to speak on obesity throughout Virginia.

Outside of work, Sandra loves snow skiing with her two sons, hiking, and sprinting. She is a loyal supporter of UVA Athletics and also enjoys watching professional football, basketball, baseball, and golf.
